Finding your Personal Style

You can’t dress for who you are until you understand who you are.

Not who you are on paper.

The emotional essence / texture of you – the part that feels, moves, dreams and defines.

Because remember … personal style isn’t just about clothes.

It’s about alignment and that begins with language.

Step 1: Life Statements

Think of your “rules to live by” / life statements that guide you.

They don’t have to be profound.

You can keep it simple.

(make a note)

Step 2: The Quotes

What are the quotes that have stayed with you?

The ones you’ve scribbled into journals, pinned on mood boards, or kept in your phone for “those days.”

They matter more than you think.

Quotes are a mirror.

We fall in love with them not just for their words, but for the recognition they spark …

They sound like us. Like who we are. Who we have been. Who we want to be.

Don’t overthink it.

(make a list)

Step 3: Style Words

Now the fun part — this little exercise is like giving your style a voice … the part of you that knows how you want to feel … even if your wardrobe hasn’t quite caught up yet.

Ask yourself:

  • How do I want to feel in my clothes — not just how I want to look?

  • How do I want to feel when I walk into a room?

  • What energy do I want to carry when I’m with friends, at work or just going about my day?

  • If my style could speak … what would it say about me?

Now, try to capture the feeling / your style essence into words. Don’t overthink — let them come from the heart. Whatever feels like you — not the version you think you should be.

(Optional — try creating a mood board with images, colours, textures or outfits that embody your words. Sometimes what we can’t quite say, we can see)

Step 4: Identify your 3 Power Words

(Reflect on the notes, lists & mood board you have made)

Look for patterns.

Do any words start to repeat themselves—not the exact same ones, but the feeling of them?

What words emerge?

Choose 3 (adjectives) that feel true.

Don’t aim for perfection.

Go for resonance.

These are not boxes to trap you.

These 3 words are the lenses to help you see more clearly and will become your style anchors / compass. When you’re getting dressed, shopping or managing your wardrobe, come back to them — Ask: Does this piece reflect who I really am? Does it support the way I want to feel?

It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being intentional.

They’ll help you decide what’s truly you and why.

(These 3 words will explain why some outfits feel like you and why others don’t)

Step 5: Style Through the Lens of You

Once you have your 3 words, everything else starts to shift …

  • What you invest in: Clothes that reflect your words.

  • When you wear them: Based on what you need to feel that day.

  • How you wear them: With intention, because it aligns with your core.

And here’s the freeing part - you’re experimenting so may feel a little off at times.

 You’re not building a uniform.

 You’re building a language.

 The language of you.

Try it!

You might be surprised by what shows up or what you’ve known all along.

I would love to hear your 3 words.
